Google Chrome, Meet the Glut of Other Web Browsers Out There

google_browser

For a web developer or an eCommerce merchant, you have to deal with different web browsers out there, each with their little quirks and rendering engines.  In the Windows world, you have Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Safari as the most popular browsing platforms today.  Now, add one more to that list: Chrome.

Chrome is Google's latest attempt to usurp another software segment dominated by Microsoft.  IE dominates the market, but Google's hope is that Chrome represent its vision for future personal computers: make the web browser your entire computer.  Eliminate the OS and turn the Web into your PC.

That vision won't be realized with a single web browser (and the overhead of relatively slow Internet connections) anytime soon.  But with one percent "market share" already there in one day, then maybe Google is really onto something.

Then again, Chrome is just an older version of Safari.
