As a writer and a blogger, my job is to get content pushed out the door as fast as possible. I don't want to fuss around with HTML and CSS when I don't have to. I have enough technical knowledge to get me by, but I'd much rather focus on words rather than code.
Thank goodness for Content Management Systems. They make it easy for non-techies to post web content quickly and efficiently, saving your valuable technical resources for more pressing matters. Since writers, PR, and other non-technical staff likely don't know HTML/CSS, they will appreciate a clean interface to upload their content (especially yours truly).
Having a proper CMS brings these five elements to the table:
- Direct access to existing content on the Web without having to rely on a web developer to make your edits
- You can update pages faster, especially if the edits are minor. Instead of having a developer change a bad link, you can have the content owner make any necessary changes.
- You don't need to know HTML. Rather, you'll be working with existing templates to build your site and content.
- You can hold users accountable for making changes on a web page. With a good CMS in place, you can setup ownership rights so that certain users can only edit certain pages.
- Standardization and unification of your brand becomes possible because you're using similar and existing templates across all your sites.
In the world of eCommerce, an easy way to upload and edit content is crucial in increasing productivity among your non-technical staff. That lifts a heavy burden off your web developers' shoulders.
