AJAX Technology and eCommerce

ecf5-side One of the cores of the Mediachase product line is the eCommerce Framework, or the ECF, built upon a foundation of .NET technologies.  ECF G5, currently in development, leverages .NET 3.0/3.5 technologies to get ahead of the game.  With the new ECF G5, we've also taken advantage of oh-so-lovely AJAX for our back-end commerce manager to speed up GUI interactions as opposed to the more static previous generations of the ECF.  So we do end up with a nicer, more user-friendly back-end that is, importantly, faster.

On the front-end, it depends on how you implement ECF into your overall strategy, but if used smartly, AJAX can benefit the customer experience in various ways, including dynamic shopping carts, shipping calculators, and product descriptions without having to navigate away from the page, potentially increasing the conversion rate and customer loyalty.  The site doesn't have to have the best looking face in the world, but as long as it's usable and snappy for users on the front and back-end, then your AJAX implementation has served its purpose.
